Easy Monitoring Overhead Transmission

The secure and reliable operation of power transmission lines, under strict regard of economical conditions, is a prerequisite for energy providers to assure the supply with electrical energy for private and business customers.

An important parameter for the secure operation of overhead transmission lines ist the rope sagging. Also under bad operation circumstances a minimum distance between transmission line and ground must be given due to safety reasons. Transmission lines are exposed to various ambient- and operation influences. The warming by operating current, insolation, the ambient temperature, the ageing and the wind influences affect, besides other parameters, the sagging of the conductor rope.

The complexity and the so far cost intensive gathering of the determining values rope temperature and sagging require that the line dimensioning is furnished with demanding safety factors. The reliable and contemporary recording of the transmission line temperature and the resulting calculated sagging, under various operation- and ambient factors, leads to a noticeable increased efficiency of the transmission capacity of the conductor rope. Thanks to the new, innovative Transmission line monitoring system EMO the gathering of the conductor rope temperature(s) is for the first time with well economically reasonable effort.

Energy providers are now able to use their established infrastructure more efficient, expand the investment cycles articulately and partially avoid new constructions. Altogether there are tremendous cost savings possible thanks to the reliable and long applicable technology. The complementary sensors at the tower (ambient temperature, relative humidity, CO2, wind speed, ice covering etc.) result in the possibilty to define highly efficient maintenance concepts for the whole infrastructure.
